It’s not every day that hamlet takes
a cab to elsinore, where ophelia, expecting him,
has fried in haste some eggs for his supper. In the cab,
hamlet hears the driver asking him
his destination and, unsure, he answers
it’s to be the shortest way . But the cabdriver
can’t find that, between to be and not to be, and as
the eggs are getting colder, hamlet asks the cabdriver
to speak to polonius who should know if there is a
motorway to denmark. The truth is that
there isn’t, hamlet will have to get on the ferry
to elsinore, where ophelia has thrown the eggs
in the bin hoping that he might be happy with
a macdonald’s. But hamlet has already left the taxi,
after having paid what he had to pay, and is walking across
the park not knowing what to do in the wake of ophelia's
call to his mobile asking which was the nearest
river, so that she can do what she has to do.
